Building an IMOCA 60, Paul’s big dream ever since he was a child, has come one step closer. Last week, Mark Slats and PDC commissioned naval architect Juan K to create the preliminary design for an IMOCA 60.
Mark has sailed around the world, rowed across the Atlantic Ocean at record speed, narrowly came second in the solo, non-stop Golden Globe Race, and rowed across the ocean once again (this time with a partner) in record time. For that last race, he built a new boat together with us. To be able to take the start of the 2024 Vendée Globe, he will need to find a sponsor.
The chosen architect, Juan K, is known, among other things, for the ABN AMRO I and II, which were built in the Netherlands. He has carefully considered what kind of boat would suit Mark. It will be an extremely strong boat, without foils, so Mark can push it the way he likes. We will need to make some changes to our workshop before construction, but we have all the knowledge and expertise needed to build a boat that will take Mark to the start and finish of the 2024 Vendée Globe.
Attached is a video featuring stunning footage of the 2020 Vendée Globe.
