17m carbon motor yacht hull completed

Dark motor yacht hull being lifted outdoors

The carbon hull for the 17m motor yacht was craned out of the workshop at PDC last Saturday. It was an exciting day for the PDC team, as the vessel is 17m long, 5 metres wide and over 6 metres high, and only just fit through the door.  Since it cannot be transported by road at these dimensions, the hull was moved to the municipal loading quay. On Monday, a BBQ was held there to celebrate the completion of this fantastic project. The celebration was a thank-you from the owner of the vessel. Early this morning, the vessel was loaded onto a pontoon and is now on its way to the outfitter in Enkhuizen.

A 13-month project

The project began a year ago with the creation of the mould drawings. The moulds are then milled as a kit and assembled. Since the vessel was too large for PDC’s oven, a mould was made that could also function as an oven. In addition, a special frame was built with walkways inside the mould, as the hull was too high to laminate everywhere.

Joining the hull, deck and flybridge

Once the hull, deck and flybridge had each been made separately, all the components were joined and laminated together. Separate components, such as hatches and benches for the flybridge, were also made. The hull weighs less than 5,000kg in total.  The project will be completed in Enkhuizen, where the hull will be painted and fitted with interior joinery and technical systems. The official launch is expected in about one to one and a half years.
