A great start to 2022

A lot has already happened at PDC in the first three weeks of 2022.

White mould plate on a wooden support frame

A lot has already happened at PDC in the first three weeks of 2022. For example, work has been underway to complete a carbon prepreg bimini top. The customer has collected the bimini top and will paint and finish it.

Large mould transported by special transport and delivery of a tender
We have also put the finishing touches to a large mould made for a bimini, which the customer will use to make the part themselves in carbon prepreg. The mould measures 6.5m by 7.5m and was transported to the customer by special transport. Alongside this work, a one-off carbon prepreg tender is being completed this week. This Friday, the hull will be transported to the customer for completion.

An old acquaintance back in the workshop
As well as these one-off projects, we are also working on a familiar face. Another Eagle 54 is under construction—the fifth to roll out of PDC’s workshop. Earlier this year, the hull underwent vacuum infusion. The deck had already been made last year. Once the bulkheads and stiffeners are in place, we will fit the deck onto the hull.

Eco-Runner Team Delft
Meanwhile, students from the Eco-Runner team at TU Delft can be found in our workshop. Under Paul’s supervision, they are building the carbon shells for a hydrogen-powered car. They will compete in the Shell Eco-marathon at the end of the academic year.  The 23 men and women on the student team are working on this project for a year. Everything is covered, from engineering the hydrogen engines and the car’s aerodynamics to building the car and engines and communicating with the media. We can’t say too much about it, but of course we’ll make sure they have the lightest and strongest car. Below is a photo of the car from the previous event.
