This is the second episode documenting the build of the very first one-off sailing yacht made without a traditional mould. This more sustainable production process has been developed to shorten lead times and, above all, use significantly less material. To achieve this, the innovative 3D Core KitTM by Curve Works was used. For the Eagle 46, a wooden building frame is used to fit and bond the 3D Core Kit. The Core Kit then forms the basis for laminating the inner and outer carbon skins. The Eagle 46 was built for Leonardo Yachts B.V.

We are very proud that this project has been shortlisted as one of three nominees for the JEC Awards in the ‘Maritime transportation and shipbuilding’ category. The other two nominees are OceanWings, by French company Ayro, and the Hydrogen Chase Boat by Swiss company Gurit, developed for the America’s Cup. Watch the ceremony live on 8 February, from 13:30 to 15:30. https://www.jec-world.events/program/innovation-awards
